TROPHY DEBATE
This competition is
planned and lead by Nabiha Zakaria, student from the Faculty of Information
Management which is represent SMF society. This event was being held in three
days. Firstly, the briefing session was held at the Faculty of Information
Management class in BK 6, at 9.00 p.m. It was conducted by Nabiha herself.
Almost 30 students came to the briefing session. According to the assistant of
this event, the participant was consist of 21 students which is 7 students were
from the Gen-lis,3 students from RecMa, 4 students from I-rec, 3 students from
the AIMS, and 4 students represent the IMSA. All the member of the SMF that
involved in this event was consist of 27 students which are organizing this
important event.
At the briefing session on 4 October 2013,
the participant got the basic information about the debate rules and how-to
debate in front of public. Not everything can be interrupt without reasons.
Only if the government or the opposition have their point that need to be
clarify, they can voice out their topic and their point especially in making
sure that they will win the issues that had been their best title. This Dean
Trophy Debates were using the league system. This system had been using for the
event to be much easier to organised, and they will not wasting their precious
time, especially in finding more information to be their point in a topic.
In this rule, the first
speaker was given only 7 minutes for them to clarify or voice out their topic.
The second speaker next was given an opportunity for them to voice out their
argumentative point just to support their group before their argument can kill
themselves. The last speaker can have time for them to close their topic as
giving out their conclusion for their proposal. At the briefing session, they
were given the proposal of the question, so that they can prepare at their home
especially about the problem that nowadays arising in our country.
First question were
talking about the political issues which was may giving a sensitive issues for
certain people. It is about the issue regarding to the McDonald selling after
the problem that now we can called it Palestine, Gaza and now everybody was
talking about Rabia. Other issues that had been the question that needs to be
answer by the participant in their group regarding to the social issues
relating to the foreign maid especially from the Indonesia, issues that will
talk about badminton game in Malaysia, and also an issue that will touch about
the obesity problem for the Malaysian people. Last question is about the
differences between the Kopitiam and also Mamak stall which is the participant
need to compare both of it to consider which the best one is. All the
participant need to wear in formal outfit that fulfil the UITM rules.
The competition starts
at BK 3 until BK 6 on 8.30 a.m., on the Saturday, 5 October 2013. All the debaters were doing
their best for this competition. It only takes one day in getting the top two
debate group that will represent the government and also the opposition. This
Dean Trophy Debate being held especially to discover out the students talent
and most of all it is for the student’s knowledge especially about their
country itself.
On Sunday, October 6,
2013 was held Dean Trophy Debates final competition between IMSA and I-rec
association group. The competition was held at Dewan Serbaguna Kolej Jasmine.
This competition has been inaugurated by Dr. Wan Ab. Kadir Wan Dollah, the
deputy dean of Faculty of Information Management. The title that has contested
was this hall believes the subsidy rationalisation was the right decision. The
final debate competition has started at 10 am and was held for almost an hour.
This contest was judged by five professional judges.
The third place was won
by the IMSA association group and second place was won by the I-rec association
group. While, the first place was won by IMSA association group. The best
debater for semifinal competition was won by Nor Elida Binti Kamil and the best
debater for final competition was won by Mohd Amin Bin Mohd Adnan from IMSA
association group. Among the guest that came for final debate competition was
Dr. Wan Ab. Kadir Wan Dollah, the deputy
dean Faculty of Information Management and Mohamad Shafik Safarizan, the MPP of
Faculty of Film, Theatre and Animation. The event just finished around 12 pm.
According to Mohd Amin
Mohd Adnan, the best debater in final competition, the things that motivated
him to join this competition is his IMSA association. As the new in IMSA
association, he wanted to contribute something to IMSA association. As he knows
that he has the talents in debate, so he volunteers to join this debate
competition. He also said he really like debates and he always followed the
debates in Malaysia. Lastly, when he was asked the definition of debate, he
said that the debate is knowledge that justifies something.
Besides, according to Nur Syafiqah Binti Fadzillah,
one of the debaters from I-rec association, she joined this debate competition
because it was her passions since she was young. She said actually she wanted
to be a lawyer but she realised that it impossible for her. So, with joined
debates competition, it can satisfy herself. She already joined a lots of
debate competition before. She recommended other people to join debate because
it can enhance skill and improve their language. Lastly, when she was asked the
definition of debate, she said that debate is awesome and amusement.
