Faculty of Information Management Open Day

                    In accordance with the ideas espoused by the University of Technology MARA (UiTM) to become a world class university, Information management student association (IMSA) with the cooperation from counseling department of HEP, PTRPP, GENLIS, AIM, I-REC and RECMA want to realize the vision and mission of UiTM and national policies to educate and train indigenous people in particular to be a professional and competent scholars tall in the face of globalization the world with no boundaries.

            On 25th October until 27th October 2013, Information Management Student Association (IMSA) Department of Information Management organized a program called "OPEN WEEK INFORMATION MANAGEMENT FACULTY” which targeting the students of Faculty of Information Management as well as the lecturers, staffs, and the community in Puncak Perdana. It took place in several places like Anjung professor, library of Tunku Abdul Rahman, and seminar room. The aim is to provide opportunities for the students in the field of entrepreneurial talent, sports, and also organizing seminars/forums. Not to be forgotten with the advent of mini-exhibitions also help students in their final semester particularly aware of their career. Through this program, it could encourage students to be professional and have awareness of social responsibility to the community. The name of this program is “Open Week of Faculty of Information Management”. The theme of this program is “to build informative graduates”.

                   The objective of this program is to promote the faculty of information management in community around, so that the community knows about this faculty. Then, to nurture and foster fraternity among the students of FIM in order to foster a spirit of cooperation between the faculty association programs. It means that, when the faculty organizes the program, the students should cooperate with one another to produce a good program. Another objective of this program is to produce the creative and innovative students of Faculty Information Management and to produce the students who are proactive and competitive. Proactive means the action and result oriented behaviour, instead of the one that waits for things to happen and then tries to adjust (react) to them.


                  On the other hand, the objective of this program is to produce students who are sensitive to career involving the respective program so that the students know the future career in order to set their goals. This program also to build student interest entrepreneurship skills within FPM. Other than that, it is to build the students with the good awareness to the community and to create them with the motivation and awareness about current issues.

AGM for GEN-Lis





This meeting involved all the students of Bachelor of Science Library & Information Management (Hons) from part one to part six.  The objective of the annual grand meeting was to choose a new leader for Generation Library Society (GEN-Lis) itself and also to introduce all the exco.there are  Almost 300 students came to vote. All the students have to choose between two candidates. First candidate is Wan Hanis Izati Binti Wan Hanafi and the second one is Nur Izzati Binti Sallehuddin. Both of them are part five (5) students.  All of the students were given a form to vote whichever shown photographs of candidates and they has presented their manifesto to the voters.

The VVIP  for  the evening were Dr. Wan Kadir Wan Dollah the deputy dean of the faculty, Sir Mad Khir Johari B Abdullah Sani chief centre of education for library and resource centre, Encik Zailan B Endin, and also Mdm Saniah Md Nor as the adviser for GEN-lis. Dr Wan Abdul Kadir gave greeting words to the voters, then both candidates gave their manifesto to the voters, then, all the students were showed some screened montage of the previous semester activities. 

about 10 p.m., the polling results were announced, Nur Izzati Binti Sallehuddin were appointed as the new President of Generation Library Society (GEN-Lis) , While Wan Hanis Izati Binti Wan Hanafi as the new vice president. The president was asked to give out words of appreciation. About 10.30 p.m. the annual grand meeting was ended and the students were given out coupons.

1Citizen Program

1Citizen is a special training program developed and conducted by Prestariang Systems Sdn. Bhd. meant to foster national unity via appropriate use of technology. This program inspires Netizens to become critical thinkers that understand ethical consequences of online behavior. 1Citizen program will help students in getting IC CITIZEN Certification, a world class certification program Netiquette to confirm and verify students’ understanding of the ground rules for acceptable use in the digital world today.
Besides that, IC Citizen Certification is the first certification programs in the world specially developed and designed to produce digitally literate and responsible citizens. This unique yet universal certification  program aims to impart Acceptable Usage Policy (AUP) that lays down rules of acceptable ‘Netiquette’ or behavior that should be applied when operating digital devices and using the internet.
There are four objectives identified from this program. Firstly is to develop a sense ofkeNegaraan’, collaboration, responsibility and ownership to this community during their online digital experience. Next is to infuse positive messages among youth and thirdly is to encourage youth volunteerism and activism. Lastly, its objective is to integrate a Malaysia-owned Globally- Benchmarked and standards for Digital Literacy Certification.
Meanwhile, IC CITIZEN main objective is to produce digitally literate and responsible citizens via becoming critical thinkers in analyzing sources of information and communications, understanding ethical consequences of online behavior and making ethical online decisions. Second objective is to prepare users for a society full of technology without misusing and abusing it. Thirdly is to globally promote good behavior and respect when communicating and collaborating in the digital world and lastly is to ensure equal, secure and reliable access to Digital Media & Resources.
This program comprises of eight critical values to be acquired knowledge and understanding and student must follow the eight critical values in the class. The eight critical values are e-Access, e-Literate, e-Rule, e-Safety, e-Interaction & collaboration, e-Enterprise, e-Care and e-Accountability.
This is a must join program for students from part 5 of Faculty of Information Management. This program was held every week, for two days with different group of students and trainers. The trainers are among the lecturers of Faculty of Information Management itself and they must possess a 1Citizen certificate to make them qualify as a trainer.
On the first day student learnt about eight critical values and second day they needed to sit for an examination that consisted of 45 multiple-choice questions in a 60 minutes time limit in order to test the students’ understanding level regarding the eight critical values and how to use technology appropriately.  Students sat for the exam in the computer lab starting from 12:00 pm until 5:00 pm. When students passed the examination, they have to submit their portfolio based on what they have learned.
From this program, they would obtain two certificates, first certificate is for attendance from Prestariang Systems Sdn. Bhd. and the second certificate is from Certipot which could only be obtained if students passed the examination. To pass the examination, they must get 640 marks and above.
One of the students who joined this program is Ramlah bt Osman who is a student from Record Management (IM226), said this program had enlighten her knowledge and make  her understand more about eight critical values that student should learn it is e-Access, e-Literate, e-Rule, e-Safety, e-Interaction & collaboration, e-Enterprise, e-Care and e-Accountability. Ramlah bt Osman suggested that 1Citizen or this kind of program should be continued in the future because it provide guideline regarding a good ethical decision of our behaviors online.

Debate Championship FIM

DEAN TROPHY DEBATE


This competition is planned and lead by Nabiha Zakaria, student from the Faculty of Information Management which is represent SMF society. This event was being held in three days. Firstly, the briefing session was held at the Faculty of Information Management class in BK 6, at 9.00 p.m. It was conducted by Nabiha herself. Almost 30 students came to the briefing session. According to the assistant of this event, the participant was consist of 21 students which is 7 students were from the Gen-lis,3 students from RecMa, 4 students from I-rec, 3 students from the AIMS, and 4 students represent the IMSA. All the member of the SMF that involved in this event was consist of 27 students which are organizing this important event.
At the briefing session on 4 October 2013, the participant got the basic information about the debate rules and how-to debate in front of public. Not everything can be interrupt without reasons. Only if the government or the opposition have their point that need to be clarify, they can voice out their topic and their point especially in making sure that they will win the issues that had been their best title. This Dean Trophy Debates were using the league system. This system had been using for the event to be much easier to organised, and they will not wasting their precious time, especially in finding more information to be their point in a topic.
In this rule, the first speaker was given only 7 minutes for them to clarify or voice out their topic. The second speaker next was given an opportunity for them to voice out their argumentative point just to support their group before their argument can kill themselves. The last speaker can have time for them to close their topic as giving out their conclusion for their proposal. At the briefing session, they were given the proposal of the question, so that they can prepare at their home especially about the problem that nowadays arising in our country.
First question were talking about the political issues which was may giving a sensitive issues for certain people. It is about the issue regarding to the McDonald selling after the problem that now we can called it Palestine, Gaza and now everybody was talking about Rabia. Other issues that had been the question that needs to be answer by the participant in their group regarding to the social issues relating to the foreign maid especially from the Indonesia, issues that will talk about badminton game in Malaysia, and also an issue that will touch about the obesity problem for the Malaysian people. Last question is about the differences between the Kopitiam and also Mamak stall which is the participant need to compare both of it to consider which the best one is. All the participant need to wear in formal outfit that fulfil the UITM rules.
The competition starts at BK 3 until BK 6 on 8.30 a.m., on the Saturday, 5 October 2013. All the debaters were doing their best for this competition. It only takes one day in getting the top two debate group that will represent the government and also the opposition. This Dean Trophy Debate being held especially to discover out the students talent and most of all it is for the student’s knowledge especially about their country itself.
On Sunday, October 6, 2013 was held Dean Trophy Debates final competition between IMSA and I-rec association group. The competition was held at Dewan Serbaguna Kolej Jasmine. This competition has been inaugurated by Dr. Wan Ab. Kadir Wan Dollah, the deputy dean of Faculty of Information Management. The title that has contested was this hall believes the subsidy rationalisation was the right decision. The final debate competition has started at 10 am and was held for almost an hour. This contest was judged by five professional judges.
The third place was won by the IMSA association group and second place was won by the I-rec association group. While, the first place was won by IMSA association group. The best debater for semifinal competition was won by Nor Elida Binti Kamil and the best debater for final competition was won by Mohd Amin Bin Mohd Adnan from IMSA association group. Among the guest that came for final debate competition was Dr. Wan Ab.  Kadir Wan Dollah, the deputy dean Faculty of Information Management and Mohamad Shafik Safarizan, the MPP of Faculty of Film, Theatre and Animation. The event just finished around 12 pm.
According to Mohd Amin Mohd Adnan, the best debater in final competition, the things that motivated him to join this competition is his IMSA association. As the new in IMSA association, he wanted to contribute something to IMSA association. As he knows that he has the talents in debate, so he volunteers to join this debate competition. He also said he really like debates and he always followed the debates in Malaysia. Lastly, when he was asked the definition of debate, he said that the debate is knowledge that justifies something.

Besides, according to Nur Syafiqah Binti Fadzillah, one of the debaters from I-rec association, she joined this debate competition because it was her passions since she was young. She said actually she wanted to be a lawyer but she realised that it impossible for her. So, with joined debates competition, it can satisfy herself. She already joined a lots of debate competition before. She recommended other people to join debate because it can enhance skill and improve their language. Lastly, when she was asked the definition of debate, she said that debate is awesome and amusement.
